OUR TAKE
An event-driven, contact-first workflow
messages.dev documents an API, signed webhooks and an outbox approach. It fits a developer-owned workflow where the contact opens the live conversation and durable application code controls follow-ups.
Use the incoming event as enrollment evidence
Bind enrollment to a verified incoming event and trusted contact identity. Store that link so a recovered worker can distinguish an accepted conversation from a test record.
The free daily test allowance is useful for development. It does not establish paid production initiation rights or the identity of a live dedicated number.
Keep pending work durable
An outbox-oriented design can help separate a business decision from a network attempt. Your application still needs to deduplicate events and reject stale follow-ups after a reply.
Use the provider’s current signing and delivery documentation to implement the adapter. This publication has not tested a production reminder sequence on the service.
The decision in one sentence
Evaluate messages.dev against the trigger, stop rule and recovery responsibilities described above.
