OUR TAKE

A workflow host you can choose to operate

Photon documents managed messaging tiers and a self-hosted route. It is a useful comparison for teams deciding whether their automation infrastructure should include their own Mac-based messaging layer.

Assign an infrastructure owner

Self-hosting creates responsibilities for the machine, account and process that send messages. A queue can remain durable while the actual messaging host is unavailable.

Make that blocked state visible to the operator. Decide which follow-ups should expire and which should wait after an outage.

Budget the actual workflow tier

The published managed Free, Pro and Business tiers differ in identity and feature scope. A shared-pool prototype should not be priced as the same service as a dedicated business sender.

For either model, define stop-on-reply, timezone handling and duplicate protection in the application. Ask which capabilities the current provider tier supplies and which you must implement.

The decision in one sentence

Evaluate Photon against the trigger, stop rule and recovery responsibilities described above.

These are the provider’s own descriptions. Prices and product claims are dated snapshots, and performance claims are not our test results.
